I recently purchased an Mac Mini G4 online. (from around 2005) When i booted it up, I discovered that the original owner didn't erase any of his information or even log out. I would like to do a factory reset if possible. I have a start up disc (Tiger OS) and have tried booting from the disc at start up, holding command/R, holding down the option key and holding down a variety of other keys to try to get it to go to recovery mode and nothing works. All it does it load up to the original owner's account. Any ideas on how to do a factory reset or even just get it to recovery mode? Hopefully you were able to correctly identify which build model Mac mini G4 or early Intel that looks a lot like the first edition; but has other technologies inside. Restoring your computer back to its original state, whether on Windows or Mac, is a whole lot easier than it used to be—restore partitions (original copies of the OS integrated into your laptop. Sometimes up to 10 minutes; and as little as only two minutes before that feature times-out. Here's the last item I found, that was not allowed during edit of last post above. The steps are different in each; but this also adds other info missing from others. When there are other questions, ask ~ and hopefully someone who replies then will be more exacting; I've only done these steps, not written instructions down. Tips for Installing or Reinstalling Mac OS X 10.4. Installer Partition as the startup disk; emergency boot partition acting as an OS X Tiger Install DVD. In any event. Good luck & happy computing! I can't install from my OS X from my original Mac Mini install CD. Mine is labeled 'Mac Mini'. So I don't understand. Is it because it is a REFURBISHED Mac Mini? But I bought it from the Apple Store. What I did notice is that Apple changes the S/N. When I later tried to upgrade my iLife to '06 my Mini wasn't listed in Apple's valid serial numbers. Spent close to an hour with them on the phone and finally they gave up and sent me the new version for free. So, getting back on track, anyone know how I can get my Mac up and running again? I also erased the disk tosee if that was the problem. Good thing I have a backup on my firewire disk. But I don't have a Mac to work on and I need to work! Appreciate any help. Thanks for the tip, but. If you read closely, the problem is the same except that I have an install CD labeled 'Mac Mini' and he doesn't. So, a solution to this should apply to both as we both our Mac Minis are refurbished and purchased about the same date. I can post outside this thread but at other forums I'd be told there was already a thread on this subject. But it may be different here and I see you have been helping people out since 200o so you must know. I will post it at the top level.
